Blog Hop Time!!!

Are you ready for one rockin' good time? Well, you've come to the right place. As you may know, Paper Crafts is celebrating the release of the 225 Cards and Projects issue.

My cover project for the issue was made with a strawberry container. Today, I have another repurposed project for you. Not too long ago I received my first set of Papertrey Ink stamps. Aside from loving the stamps, I loved the boxes they came in. I knew I couldn't throw them out. So, I've been decorating them and using them as gift boxes. This one uses PTI cardstock, bitty dot paper, ribbon, stamps and ink.

This particular box was given to my niece for her birthday. I wrapped a necklace set in tissue and tucked it inside the box with a card. She LOVED it. I'm always so happy when people enjoy receiving my handmade goodies. ;)

So, here is where the fun begins. Leave me a comment (by Sunday April 26 at midngiht MST) telling me how you use found objects in other ways. It could be paper crafting or for some other purpose. (See an Earth Day theme tie in here?)Or let me know how you think you'll do this in the future. By doing this you will be entered for a chance to win one of these amazing prizes:

Cricut Expression

Your Story laminator/Binder

Yudu Screen Printing Machine

And here's something even better... you have 11 more chances to do so. Just visit these other ladies to view their fun projects and leave a comment for another chance to win.

Being a student, I reuse the strangest things all the time, both for storage and in my scrapbooking. My favorite are some old glass jars that used to contain jam or other foods, that I keep my ever-growing stash of buttons in.

Kathy K said...

Hey! I love your little box! Such a cooler way to present something than in just a standard (boring) jewelry box!!!

I love to repurpose things. The thing I use the most often is (believe it or not), the cardboard cup sleeves from coffee shops. I love making cardboard buttons and backgrounds out of them...sometimes (around holidays, etc.) they have cool designs on them, and when they don't, the corrugated side is just so cool anyway!

But, yeah. I save too many things. My husband now knows that the only way to avoid getting yelled at is to ask before he throws away any container of any sort ;)

I repurpose my used candle jars from Yankee, using them in my craft room as containers. I love how they look and the fact that they're "free".

absolutely beautiful gift box!

i'm not too creative in the things i repurpose. i recycle lots of things [plastics for clear die cuts, cereal boxes for templates and chipboard us, bits and pieces of ribbons and doo-dads from other cards] but nothing especially exciting :)

Unknown said...

No piece of ribbon is safe from me reusing it, but I've been collecting maple syrup bottles to fill with button. The bottles are glass and a really pretty shape I decorate and reuse.

I love how I can keep my ribbon stash tidy wrapped around lots of wooden clothes pegs....looks pretty too. HCJC.

I reuse lots of things for storing my crafting items in, especially old jars as I decorate them in pretty papers.

I try to repurpose most everything I can. I use peanut butter jars for all my trims. I think I have four different ones now all with different colour schemes.

Your projects are just beautiful. It was nice to visit your blog today.

I once used an old ball jar and made a snowglobe (w/o the water) and put some snow, a vintage reindeer and a tree in it (also, some ribbon around the lid)for a Christmas decoration.

Yummy!!! I reuse formula canisters all the time as gift containers, once they're 'dressed up with paper'!!!

Great use of a box...love the decorations. I use anything I can find from old frames to empty tins. Getting it cheap or free is so much of the fun. Off to hop.

It's not truly about found objects... but once every few months I take the time to rearrange my crop room so that all of the stuff I HAVEN'T used ends up somewhere new. I find I'm more likely to use up what I've got before buying more!

I apparently have always been fond of rocks (my mom always tells me I use to collect them as a child) Anyways, when I got married I collected smooth oval shaped rocks, washed and scrubbed them up and wrote the names of our guests and used them for our seating arrangement.....eveyone ended up taking them home! I still have mine and my husbands. We got married in Croatia in the city of Nin which is where my mom is from and it's a beautiful, takes my breath away small city along the mediterranean sea.

I love to use large Chi Chi's Salsa glass bottles. I clean them out, fill them with candy, etc., use my favorite paper to decorate, then give as a simple but fun gift. The shape of the bottle is really cool!

Wow Anabelle, what a prize collection. LOVE the box you made for your niece... I'm sure she was over the moon about it. you are so very thoughtful!
I reuse lots of stuff. I've used milk containers cut into pieces, sometimes shapes, sometimes I leave them in squares, and use alcohol inks on them. They kind of have a stained glass effect. They make fun little embellies for pages.
Have a wonderful day Anabelle!

I really like seeing your work in PaperCrafts; it's something that I think I can do because it seems easy enough, but looks beautiful when finished. A favorite container to store markers is a cashew can :-D

Your project is sensational and just knocks my socks off! I reuse glass jars that once held jam or preserves and store buttons or crafting supplies in them. I have always re-used Altoid tins to store crayons to carry in my purse for my daughter.

Wonderful cards.
I think I reuse items everyday with all my daycare children to make crafts and games. The one thing we use a lot of are old CD's, egg cartons, paper tubes...I tend to look at everything with an eye for, 'wonder what we could make with that?'

Yaritza said...

I think the most things I re-use are my plastic packaging. They are great to make your own ghost letters and shapes using a die cut machine that can handle cutting thick materials like that.
Thanks for the chance to win.

Love that container and now I am sooooo sad that I have thrown all my papertrey stamp boxes out. Here in my small town we have a local shop that carries the most wonderful coffee. I like to buy it by the 1/2 pound or full pound and put it in a kraft coffee bag (from Papertrey Ink) that I have decorated.

Such a cute box!! Thanks for the chance to win such fab prizes! I'm always saving containers for my stash. I recently used a clear 6-egg carton to give my friend some scrapping embellies. She invited us for Easter, so I stuffed some plastic eggs with buttons, ribbon, brads, etc. and packaged them right back in the egg carton. Love those jelly jars for holding stuff, too!

I use my clear boxes the same way you do. I also made a cool 3-D Halloween display using old Plexiglas inserts from real estate flier holders. I stamped on both sides of the Plexiglas using swirls and Staz-on ink pads, added paper at different depths and embellishments. It turned out great. I love finding new uses for discards. Thanks for the inspiration and the fun. Have a great day!

What a cute box you used to send your neice's gift. I bet she was delighted! I like the box itself. That to me would be a gift. ;-) I use lots of different items to recreate a new item. I am a big fan of saving my preserves jars, washing them, then covering with a sleeve to and including little goodies inside. I think the favorite of mine is using the push up pop sticks to make treat holders for numerous events, birthdays, Valentine's, Easter, 4th of July, just because...etc.

DMorgan said...

"Repurposed." I like that word! I wrap gifts in old newspapers and decorate. Brown paper bags are used to wrap around gifts to be sent through the mail. Cardboard sleeves around light bulbs make great white corragated embellishments. Cigar boxes are fun to alter for storage items and for gifts. Glass jars from candles make cute gifts when filled with fun things to eat (or use in crafting). Newspaper, old book pages, overused maps, colorful magazine ads make great card backgrounds. (Years ago I made jewelry from rolled up colorful magazine ads; just saw some for sale at a craft show awhile back. Brought back memories!) I think I'm running out of room! Thanks for giving us a chance to get ideas from what others do, too!

I love to use my empty candle tins with the clear lids. When the candle is done, I clean them out, and then stick on a circle of sheet magnet that I cut out to fit the bottom. They stick to my filing cabinet, and keep little bits and embellishments out of the way, but not out of sight!

I always save small glass jars. I spray paint the lids black so they all match. I store buttons and small embelishments in them.

That box is absolutely adorable. I reuse packaging for mostly storage and organization. I do save old food containers to take to get togethers so I can just leave them behind, but after seeing your project, I will decorate them and give as gift containers. Thanks for the inspiration.

Love the colors of your card!

I will be turning an plastic ice cream container into a plant pot, hopefully I will have time for it this weekend. I hope it will turn out as nice as the picture is in my mind!

What a cute box! I save everything just in case I can use it for something else (thus the very crowded craft closet). Most recently, I repurposed an old wall hanging, took out the print, painted the frame, cut some vinyl, and made a fun sign for my laundry room. :o)

What a gorgeous box!! Love that!! I like to use 'found' objects on my scrapbooking pages. Anything is fair game...cardboard,porch screen material, bubble wrap, clothing tags, etc. And I've used old CD's to make mini-albums...altered an old candy box to make a giftbox for my DH...I took some old jeans of my DD's and made ribbon capris and ruffled skirts to get more use out of them...things like that. :)

What a gorgeous project! Now I have to check those stamps.

I'm always stealing the boxes our Mac accessories come in and decorating them and using them for storage. Those accessories are expensive so I figure I need to use *everything* that come with them!

Love your box! I like to use the Maya Road boxes for paper doll containers--I make the paper dolls with my Cricut Expression :^) Would love to win the Expression and give it to my daughter! :^)

I haven't altered anything yet, but I've begun saving things that could be altered!

Your box is so cute! We try to recycle everything we can. I think the most creative thing I've used is flower pots for my desk to hold pens and pencils. The are so much cuter than pencil holders sold at the store.

Cute box - thanks for the inspiration. I "eye" everything for possible uses. The last project was an olive jar used to throw loose change in. I decorated it with rub-on stickers and ribbon.

Beautiful project! The colors are so fresh and colorful! I received a card that had an amazing pattern on it, so I cut out that part and used it to make another card. I like doing that!

what a gorgeous box!
just the other day I had bought some chipboard pieces. The package was tied with some great twine that I ended up using on the same project I used some of the chipboard on. What is really cool is that I had made some bg paper using old coffee grounds to create a cool effect - so this was quite the eco friendly card!

I use beer bottle caps to make picture pendants and embellishments for scrapbooking and cards. I just clean them up and hammer down the edges to make it look like a flower and then fill the inside with little things. I use diamond glaze to glue and seal everything.
